Material Drying in Pellet Printing

Moisture control is critical in pellet extrusion.


Unlike filament, pellets are typically stored and transported in bulk form.

Many engineering polymers are hygroscopic and absorb moisture from ambient air.


Even small amounts of moisture can lead to:

  • Surface defects
  • Bubble formation
  • Reduced layer adhesion
  • Inconsistent extrusion
  • Mechanical weakness


Because pellet extrusion processes higher material volumes and thermal mass, moisture effects can be more visible than in filament printing.


For consistent industrial results, proper material drying is strongly recommended, especially for:

  • PET-based materials
